The Rough Guide To The Music of Iran

[RGNET1165]

The usual rich mix from Rough Guide giving us the opportunity to hear a lot of music we would not usually get easy access to in the West. Diversity in evidence as well with Barad, who combine rock with the lyrics of Mohammad Rafie, Chengis Mehdipour brings us music from north west Iran from the Azeris (who make up almost a quarter of the population) Jahle from Bandar Abbas (the county's largest port) deliver a traditional lullaby which a lot of people would have first heard on Andy Kershaw's show a couple of years ago and Dastan Ensembe, one of Iran's top classical groups, team up with Shahram Nazeri who sings the words of Sufi poet Rumi. Excellent. Graham Radley
